Dearborn, Michigan (August 5, 2018) -- AAA Michigan reports that compared to last week, the statewide average daily gas price has decreased. Michigan’s current daily statewide average is about $2.92 per gallon, about 8 cents less than last week’s average and about 49 cents more than this same time last year.
Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price has decreased. Metro Detroit’s current average is about $2.97 per gallon, about 3 cents less than last week’s average and about 53 cents more than this same time last year.
Of the ten Michigan metro areas surveyed by AAA for self-serve unleaded fuel prices, the lowest average price can be found in the Grand Rapids/Muskegon/Holland area where it’s about $2.82 a gallon. The highest average price can be found in the Ann Arbor area for the third week in a row where it’s about $2.99 a gallon.
According to the latest reports from AAA:
Michigan ranked:

  • Gas demand has strengthened nationally and helped to push pump prices higher.
  • Gas prices increased slightly following new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) that showed gasoline demand registered at a near record-high.
  • This demand reading is short of setting a new all-time recorded high.
  • The demand rate is more than 1.5 percent more than this time last summer.
  • High demand – along with tighter supplies– have driven the pump price increases seen around the country.
  • If demand remains robust amid dwindling stocks, motorists are likely to see pump prices continue to increase throughout the summer.
