AAA URGES MICHIGAN MOTORISTS TO GET VEHICLES ROAD-READY
Summer Driving Season Heats Up
DEARBORN, MI (June 19, 2018) –  With the school year drawing  to a close and the Independence Day holiday  on the horizon, the summer travel season is heating up.  AAA is sending out a STATEWIDE ROAD READY REMINDER urging motorists to get their vehicles ready for safe journeys. Michigan travelers are reminded that emergencies are one of the fastest ways to put the brakes on a great vacation.  Motorists can minimize the risk by planning ahead and preparing properly for safe summer road trips.
Based on recent AAA surveys and analysis, AAA believes that higher gas prices will not deter Michiganders from traveling this summer. Memorial Day travel in the Mitten State was forecasted to increase for the fourth straight year by nearly 5 percent over last year. This trend is expected to continue into the Independence Day holiday. In order to enjoy summer travel and well-deserved time off, motorists may seek other ways to adjust their budgets like shaving a day or two off their vacation, shortening the mileage of their trip, eating in or at less expensive restaurants and finding other ways to save.
According to AAA’s American Driving Survey, people drive the most during the summer months, July-September. More than half (55.6 percent) of calls AAA receives from stranded motorists are due to dead batteries, flat tires, low fuel and lockouts. While AAA service technicians are able to get those motorists back on the road, the other 44 percent of stranded motorists have problems that cannot be resolved on the roadside, requiring them to be towed.

"Nothing ruins a summer trip faster than a flat tire, overheated cooling system or battery that quits working on a hot summer day," Susan Hiltz, Michigan public affairs director, AAA-The Auto  Club Group said. "That's why it is important to perform basic safety checks before you get on the road. To help Michiganders enjoy their travels this summer, AAA also offers some useful digital travel tools for free."
