AAA MICHIGAN REPORTS:STATEWIDE AVERAGE DAILY GAS PRICES UP ELEVEN CENTS
Average Back up to $3 Mark

Dearborn, Michigan (July 29, 2018) -- AAA Michigan reports that compared to last week, the statewide average daily gas price has increased. Michigan’s current daily statewide average is about $3.00 per gallon, about 11 cents more than last week’s average and about 52 cents more than this same time last year.

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price has increased. Metro Detroit’s current average is about $3.00 per gallon, about 6 cents more than last week’s average and about 59 cents more than this same time last year.

Of the ten Michigan metro areas surveyed by AAA for self-serve unleaded fuel prices, the lowest average price can be found in the Traverse City area where it’s about $2.95 a gallon. The highest average price can be found in the Ann Arbor area for the second week in a row where it’s about $3.04 a gallon.

According to the latest reports from AAA:

State
Michigan ranked:
  • 13th in the nation for most expensive average daily gas price
  • 1stin the nation for biggest change in average daily gas price compared to last week. (+11)

    Regional
  • Gasoline inventories in the region took a draw of 870,000 bbl and now face a 2.3 million bbl deficit, the only region in the country to have one according to EIA data.
  • As regional gasoline inventories tighten, gas prices could see jumps.

National

  • Gas prices have mostly held steady, signaling that supply and demand have held in sync.
  • According to the Energy Information Administration's (EIA) latest petroleum report, total production hit 10.2 million b/d, a gain of 173,000 b/d over last week,
  • Total demand grew by nearly 150,000 b/d to 9.8 million b/d.
  •  If demand and supply continue to hold steady, pump prices are likely to remain flat moving into next week.

Global

  • Oil prices have trended higher following the release of EIA's weekly report that showed total crude inventories fell by 6.2 million bbl after growing by nearly the same amount during the previous week.
  • Stocks around the country now total 404.9 million bbl, which is almost 80 million bbl lower than inventory levels at this time last year.
  • The tightened domestic crude supply amid robust global gasoline demand and high global crude demand will likely sustain the more expensive crude oil prices seen this year into the foreseeable future.
