AAA MICHIGAN REPORTS: GAS PRICES DROP ELEVEN CENTS

 
Dearborn, Michigan (January 22, 2017) — AAA Michigan reports that the statewide average daily gas price decreased about 11 cents. Michigan’s current statewide average is about $2.29 per gallon, about 11 cents less than last week’s average and about 66 cents more than this same time last year.
 
Mirroring the statewide averages, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased about 11 cents. Metro Detroit’s current average is about $2.29 per gallon, about 11 cents less than last week’s average and about 66 cents more than this same time last year.
 
Of the ten Michigan metro areas surveyed by AAA for self-serve unleaded fuel prices, the lowest average price can be found in the Flint area for the third week in row, where it’s about $2.16 a gallon. The highest average price can be found in the Marquette area for the second week in a row where it’s about $2.48 a gallon.

    • Following last month’s refinery issues, production is reported to have returned to normal and prices in most of the Great Lakes region have moved lower.
     
    National

    • The slight decrease in retail prices can be attributed to less demand and adequate
    supply.

    • This downward dip may only be temporary as the market awaits OPEC’s December monthly output report..
     
    Global

    • The market recently opened with solid crude oil gains ahead of the Jan 22 meeting with OPEC and non-OPEC members.
    • The purpose of the meeting in Vienna, Austria is to develop a mechanism to measure and ensure compliance with their production cut agreement.
    • Regardless of the outcome of the OPEC meeting increased U.S. crude oil inventories and rising shale production could negatively impact the global oil rebalancing effort.
    • Traders will continue to keep an eye on the outcome of the OPEC meeting and impacts increased U.S. oil production has on the markets.
