National

  • Strong gas demand is contributing to higher gas prices.
  • Gas prices have continued to move higher, while gasoline stocks declined and demand held strong.
  • Demand figures jumped and are the highest late-January measurement since 2007.
  • Strong demand, coupled with steadily rising oil prices will likely continue to push pump prices higher.
Global

  • A stronger dollar led to oil prices falling slightly.
  • Oil prices have generally kept gains made since late last year intact as the EIA’s latest weekly report noted that crude inventories grew by an eye-popping 6.8 million b/d.
  • U.S. production bumped up
  • Strong compliance with OPEC’s production reduction agreement, which will be in place through the end of 2018, and steady growth in global oil demand have helped to assuage market concerns that growing U.S. production could thwart efforts to rebalance the global oil market.
